Just in Case: The Washable Pee Pad Under My Puppy Pads ๐งบ

I've got a good-sized fenced yard and doggie doors. My pack has outside access 24/7. ๐ก
But just in case? I keep one of these under a few smaller puppy pads. For when I'm not home, or when somebody needs to have an accident. It happens. No judgment. ๐
Easy to wash. I love them. ๐
My pick
LOOBANI Washable Pee Pads for Dogs, 2 Pack, 72" x 72"
- Two giant 72" x 72" pads. One on the floor, one in the wash. ๐
- Leak-proof TPU backing. Pee doesn't soak through to the floor.
- Non-slip bottom, so it stays put on smooth floors.
- Soft fleece top that absorbs fast.
- Machine washable and reusable. Bye, bye, buying a mountain of disposables.
- Comes in a bunch of other sizes too.
How I set it up ๐งป
- Lay the washable pad down where accidents tend to happen.
- Put a few small disposable puppy pads on top.
- Accident? Toss the little pad. The big one catches anything that misses.
- Wash the big one on rotation.
Never punish accidents ๐
Real talk: never punish an accident. No yelling. No nose-rubbing. It just hurts your bond, and most dogs learn to hide and potty somewhere secret. And no one wants that. ๐
Catch them mid-oops? Calmly interrupt and scoot them outside, then throw a party when they finish out there. ๐ Found it later? Just clean it up with an enzyme cleaner and move on.
Reward the good. Ignore or redirect the rest. ๐
The honest part
- They're big, so they take up space in the washer.
- Fleece holds fur. Shake it out before washing. ๐
- It's a backup, not a potty-training plan.
- If a house-trained dog suddenly starts having accidents, call the vet first. It can be medical.
Real facts, no fluff
- The ASPCA says not to scold a dog for an earlier accident, because they won't connect it. Rubbing their face in it just makes them fear you, and they'll get sneakier about hiding it. Big praise when they get it right works. (ASPCA)
- The CDC says to clean up dog urine, poop, or vomit in the house right away, disinfect the area well, and wash your hands after. (CDC)
- VCA says house soiling can be a sign of a physical illness, so if it starts suddenly, ask your vet to check for one. Examples include infection, kidney disease, diabetes, pain, and age-related cognitive decline. (VCA)
Vet note: I'm not a vet, and this isn't vet advice. Peeing more, straining, blood in the urine, or new accidents all mean it's time to call your vet.
