This is one of my dog doors. And honestly? Life changing. ๐
Potty breaks on their schedule, not mine. No more "let me out, let me in, let me out." Hahaha. ๐
My biggest dog is around 35 lbs and goes through it just fine.
But the one who loves it the MOST? Stevie. My cat. ๐ฑ He's an inside-outside guy, over 10, and he struts through that flap like he paid for it. (I paid for it, Stevie.)
My pick
PetSafe Plastic Dog & Cat Door, Medium
- Medium size, for pets up to 40 lb.
- Flap opening about 8 1/8" W x 12 1/4" H.
- A snap-on closing panel to lock it at night or keep stray critters out.
- Paintable frame to match your door. ๐จ
- Fits interior or exterior wood, PVC, metal, and paneled doors 1/16" to 2" thick.
- Comes in other sizes too.
The honest part
- Install? I can't speak to it. I paid someone. ๐ It didn't take him long, though. It comes with a cutting template and step-by-step instructions.
- Check the size chart for YOUR pet. Measure their height and width. PetSafe says to mark your pet's shoulder height on the door when placing it.
- A dog door is only as good as your fence. Mine has its moments. See how I fix the gaps under my fence.
- Lock it when you need to. At night, or anytime you don't want visitors of the wild kind. ๐ฆ
- Plastic flaps wear out with heavy use. Replacement flaps are sold separately.

Vet note: I'm not a vet, and this isn't vet advice. Outdoor access means more exposure to ticks, fleas, and critters, so ask your vet about parasite prevention.
